A ny rational person can see that our world in terms of human experience is disturbingly botched. Oppression is the rampant reality under a global pretense of equality, rendering impossible any healthy and altruistic society, as a few rich elites improve the ease of their lifestyles at the expense of the poor. Slavery, war, disease, famine, and environmental devastation make life physically miserable for increasingly more people. Most individuals do not ever even approach the fulfillment of their potentialities, and communities are not coherent. If we continue on our current path, then downwards is the only direction possible for us in every respect, as disparities widen between the privileged elite and the rest of humanity.

Equal OpportunityAn Introduction to Meritocratic Democracy

Meritocratic Democracy is government that will overcome this inequality, where every other political and economic system has failed, most notably the capitalist democracy of the West. We refer to equality in terms of opportunity, and not the naïve aspiration of equal outcomes. Meritocratic Democracy delivers equal opportunity for all. It recognizes that we are all equal in the right to the resources to become the best people we can possibly make of ourselves.

Education

Each of us is part of a much larger world community, but at the same time we are all unique individuals with our own sets of talents. Meritocratic Democracy celebrates this duality of community and individuality by recognizing that while we vary in our strengths, we are equal in our desire to pursue them, free of discrimination. Meritocratic Democracy will encourage and assist everyone in the development and perfection of their gifts by providing every single citizen with the most cutting-edge education available — Custom Education. This education will be tailored to each person’s psychological personality type (such as the Myers Briggs personality types). Most of us learn differently, favoring one modality over another: some people learn better primarily by seeing, some by hearing, and some by touch/experience. If you learn primarily by seeing, and your teacher operates by touch/experience, then you will not learn as well as if with a teacher who used more visuals. Some people are naturally intelligent in linguistics, others process more via spatial thinking; some see the world via interpersonal relationships, some need nature, and some see everything with mathematical eyes. Personality types, modalities and multiple intelligences are merely three of several considerations towards Custom Education; every citizen of a Meritocratic Democracy will learn from teachers who are experts in differentiation. Once students are afforded instruction and an environment that cater to their general comfort zones, the education can be tailored further to be specific to the individual. This degree of student-centered education is unknown today, but Meritocratic Democracy will ensure that every child has equal opportunity to develop into an expert in a field that maximises her natural abilities and interests.

Inheritance Tax

How does a Meritocratic Government fund this cutting edge Custom Education for all of its citizens and at the same time eradicate the inequality that is running rampant? Both of these problems can be handled with one simple solution: Inheritance Tax. At its core Inheritance Tax simply means that after a person passes away and has no more use for their assets, the Meritocratic Government will return that person’s left-over assets back to the commonwealth, where they can be used to pay for such things as a high quality education for everyone. Inheritance Tax not only pays to strengthen society, but at the same time it takes away the ability for people to pass on unfair advantages and disadvantages to their children. Passing on your assets to your family after you pass away may seem like an altruistic thing to do, but looking more deeply, we can see how this will immediately lead to the kind of world we have now: a world of massive inequalities, where the poor continue to get poorer because they have only debt to pass on to their family; and meanwhile, the rich get richer and richer, until their families morph into immensely powerful dynasties that literally rule the world. If this type of society sounds familiar, it should, because it is exactly the society in which we are currently living. Our world could be changed into a bastion of reason, altruism and community almost immediately by simply implementing Inheritance Tax.

Qualified Universal Suffrage

The next core principle of a Meritocratic Democracy is Qualified Universal Suffrage. This voting system replaces universal suffrage within a Meritocratic society. At this point our world is being run by privileged people who are interested in only one thing: increasing their wealth and power at the expense of everyone else. People who behave in this way belong in a psychiatrist’s chair, not in public offices. The simple fact of the matter is that when you have blatantly deceptive politicians striving to maximize their own power and wealth juxtaposed with an uneducated, uncaring public allowed to vote on anything simply because they have lived for 18 years, then you will end up with at best an extremely dysfunctional society, and at worst a destroyed planet. Meritocratic Democracy is all about voting for the individuals most qualified to run society, allowing the society to function optimally. Qualified Universal Suffrage is the vehicle a Meritocratic government will use to ensure that the most qualified people run society; it allows anyone to vote for any candidate for any office, as long as the voter can demonstrate a sufficient degree of understanding in the candidate’s field of expertise and sphere of influence. It’s as simple as that; if we want to vote, then we must prove that we are knowledgeable on the issues.

Dialectic

The final core principle of a Meritocratic Democracy is the Dialectic, a philosophical concept that is commonly broken down into three parts: thesis, antithesis, and synthesis. The thesis is the first attempt to understand or explain a concept, or to improve anything that already exists. The Antithesis is the opposition to the thesis, and it seeks to show what is wrong with the thesis. The synthesis takes what is best from the thesis and antithesis, and leaves behind the rest. Thinking of the scientific method is a good way to understand the Dialectic because the two are closely related. The scientific method is, in effect, the scientific application of the Dialectic, but the Dialectic isn’t limited to science; it can work equally well when applied to all aspects of life, including politics, psychology, sociology, business, education, and health. The Dialectic can be used to improve every part of an individual and society. In a Meritocratic Democracy the Dialectic provides the basis for a healthy government to function, and it will improve every aspect of human affairs.
